Faith Lutheran's girls golf team holds the lead after the first round of the Class 5A Southern Region tournament at Aliante Golf Club with a team score of 1-over 289. Bishop Gorman is second at 7-over 295, followed by Coronado at 11-over 299. Palo Verde is fourth at 39-over 327 and Liberty fifth at 57-over 345. Faith Lutheran senior Maddie Perez, a UNLV commit, shot 6-under 66 and leads individually by three strokes over Bishop Gorman's Sol Choi at 3-under 69. Abby Lytle of Faith Lutheran is third at even-par 72. The top three teams qualify for the state tournament in Reno next week.
In Wednesday's high school action, Kloe Abdalla of Faith Lutheran scored two goals as the Crusaders defeated Shadow Ridge 5-0. Stella Corrado-Brito of Bishop Gorman had three goals and an assist in a 5-2 win over Foothill. Danielle Morales of Arbor View scored two goals, including a second-half equalizer, in a 2-2 tie with Coronado. Allison Moreno of Tech contributed two goals and an assist in a 3-2 victory over SLAM! Nevada. Mia Terrazas of Las Vegas High logged two goals and an assist in an 8-0 win over Valley. Addison Chase of Foothill recorded 12 assists, four digs and an ace in a volleyball sweep over Durango (25-16, 25-18, 25-14).
In the 3A Southern Region golf tournament, Boulder City leads Virgin Valley in team standings with a score of 64-over 352 compared to 107-over 395. The Meadows' Chloe Sakkab leads the individual standings at even-par 72, ahead of Boulder City's Emmerson Hinds at 9-over 81. The six highest-ranked individuals not on qualifying teams with a two-round score of 180 or below will also qualify for state as individuals.
