Police: Las Vegas man in critical condition after hit-and-run by suspected DUI driver

Police say a 60‑year‑old Las Vegas man remains in critical condition after being struck by a suspected impaired driver in a hit‑and‑run on Friday afternoon. Troy Smith, 60, was riding his Trek 6000 bicycle eastbound on East Desert Inn Road near South Topaz Street, just before 4 p.m., when a 2017 BMW M440i attempted to overtake him and sideswiped him, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release. The driver of the BMW, Peter Linder, 45, failed to remain at the scene. Officers later located Linder and determined he was impaired. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on hit‑and‑run and DUI charges, the release stated. Smith was transported to Sunrise Hospital, where medical personnel assessed his injuries as life‑threatening. The collision remains under investigation.
