There’s a quiet whisper in the Arts District, one we’re starting to believe—that the place is being overrun by witches. Dark Sister, a coven-like cocktail bar that opened in March, has only confirmed our suspicions.

The moment you approach, there’s no mistaking it. A white planchette decal on the window, a nod to the occult, marks the beginning of dark enchantment inside: the exposed brick, velvety and dark furniture and twisting greenery; the full suit of armor looming at the bar’s edge, watching you like an ancient sentinel.

But it’s the bar top that really casts the spell—a dark wooden stretch, littered with dead flowers and tarot cards, encapsulated in a shiny resin finish like a magic trap. The whole place feels like a fortune teller’s lair: intimate, mysterious and irresistibly seductive.

As for the drinks, they’re witchcraft in liquid form. The Devil’s Dance ($16) is a fiery rum concoction served in a skull glass with chili “horns,” while the coconut-fat-washed Paradise Lost ($17) pulls you straight into tropical decadence. But if you’re looking to truly lose yourself, the Lucid Dream ($15) is a lavender-infused tequila trip you won’t soon forget.

Whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, a seasoned drinker or a casual one, Dark Sister’s spellbinding menu has something worth sipping.
