Kirstin Parker filed a lawsuit against NV Energy on Oct. 13, alleging that she was stranded in her vehicle for about seven hours after a series of utility poles collapsed onto her car on East Tropicana Avenue near South Pearl Street on July 1, 2025.
According to the filing, "utility poles began to fall in a cascading, domino-like fashion behind her," and a pole with its power lines "violently toppled over, landing directly on top of [Parker's] vehicle, surrounding her with live power cables, and preventing her fromsafely exiting her vehicle." Emergency crews were able to cut power to the cables and free her after several hours.
The lawsuit contends that the incident resulted from NV Energy’s failure to design, install, inspect, repair or maintain the poles in a safe manner, and asserts the utility had "actual and/or constructive notice" of the hazardous condition. Parker is seeking $15,000 in damages.
The National Weather Service reported wind gusts of 65 to 70 mph in the far southern part of the valley on the day of the incident, leaving more than 33,000 customers without power and damaging nearly 50 power poles.
