Cashman Field prepares for historic farewell

Cashman Field, a Las Vegas sports and entertainment landmark since its origins as Elks Stadium in 1947, is preparing for its final event. The modern stadium opened on April 1, 1983, with a Major League Baseball exhibition between the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners. It later became home to the Las Vegas Stars, Las Vegas 51s, and Las Vegas Aviators baseball teams, and welcomed the Las Vegas Lights FC in 2018, adding professional soccer to its history.

Beyond baseball, Cashman Field has hosted a range of events, including a 1964 American Football League preseason game between the Oakland Raiders and Houston Oilers, a 1955 boxing match featuring Archie Moore, and concerts by artists such as the Beach Boys, Ice Cube, and Metallica. The stadium’s attendance record was set in 1993 when over 15,000 fans attended a Chicago White Sox–Chicago Cubs exhibition game.

The final event will be a Las Vegas Lights FC match against Lexington SC on Saturday, October 17, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Fans attending early will receive a miniature replica of the stadium while supplies last, and the evening will feature fireworks before the match and a light show afterward. A sellout is expected, and tickets are available at www.lasvegaslightsfc.com/tickets/.

Will Martin, the Lights’ director of marketing and communications, emphasized the stadium’s long history and encouraged fans to secure tickets in advance for the farewell match.
