Knights ‘settle game down’ after Bowman ejection vs. Bruins

The Golden Knights overcame a five-minute major penalty and a two-goal deficit to force a shootout before falling 3-2 to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Monday. Forward Braeden Bowman was ejected for the first time in his career after his elbow drew blood on Bruins forward Matthew Poitras. Boston's Morgan Geekie scored 34 seconds into the ensuing power play, but the Knights killed the remaining four-plus minutes without further damage.

Coach Ryan Craig said the penalty kill tilted the ice in Vegas' favor. "Moments in the game where we were able to tilt the ice, I thought that kill did a lot for us to get us going," Craig said. Captain Mark Stone agreed, saying the group did a good job of settling the game down and getting back to their game after the early power-play goal against.

The Knights tied the game on goals from Stone and Trevor Connelly. Connelly briefly left the game late in the first period after being driven into the boards by Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy but returned to score the tying goal. "Give him a ton of credit," Craig said. "A young kid in this league continuing to show why he belongs here, and scores a big goal for our hockey club."

Vegas earned a point but has now lost five of its last six games heading into a matchup with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Defenseman Noah Hanifin said the penalty kill stayed aggressive after the early goal against. "I thought we did a good job just staying aggressive, staying with it and not giving them too much after that," Hanifin said. The Knights also killed a late penalty when goaltender Carter Hart was whistled for delay of game.
