Liverpool's Jones argues with Szoboszlai after game

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was involved in a heated exchange with teammate Dominik Szoboszlai after the Reds’ 1‑0 victory over Wrexham at Yankee Stadium on Thursday. Following the final whistle, Jones, Szoboszlai and Kostas Tsimikas engaged in a verbal dispute while the squad walked across the stadium concourse to acknowledge supporters. The precise trigger for the argument remains unclear, though during the match Szoboszlai handed his captain’s armband to Tsimikas rather than to Jones after being substituted. In the ensuing exchange, Tsimikas was seen on video tossing the armband to the floor. Earlier this summer Liverpool turned down a £21.7 million bid for Jones from Inter Milan. The 25‑year‑old England international has one season remaining on his current Anfield contract. Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola reiterated his desire to keep Jones at the club, stating, “I rate Curtis extremely highly,” he said. “For me he is simply a great, big player, and I hope he can continue with us and continue performing the way he has been performing.” The Reds will conclude their North‑American pre‑season tour on Sunday at 21:00 BST, facing Leeds in Chicago.
