Scotland's Woods wins gold again in restaged race

Melanie Woods of Scotland secured her second Commonwealth Games gold in the women’s 1500m T54, winning a restaged final in Glasgow less than 40 hours after her initial victory. The race was ordered to be re‑run after a first‑lap crash prompted appeals, with Para‑athletics officials deciding the event should be held again. Woods retained her composure on home turf, breaking the Games record once more to reclaim the title that had already been hers. England’s Ellis Kottas, who described the overturned result as leaving her “low‑key traumatised”, finished fourth. Earlier in the race, Noemi Alphonse of Mauritius and Australia’s Eliza Ault‑Connell chased Woods, but Alphonse fell back in the final 200 metres, allowing the Scot to pull away amid a roaring crowd. Woods, who has used a wheelchair since a motorcycle accident in 2018, is scheduled to contest the 400 metres later on Friday, with the heats beginning just over ninety minutes after the replayed final.
