Arbor View senior midfielder Desmond Guevara has been named the Nevada Preps Boys Athlete of the Week for the period of Oct. 26-31. Guevara won the online vote over three other nominees who posted standout performances during the week.
Guevara scored two goals Tuesday in the Falcons' 3-0 playoff victory over Mojave. The senior leads his team with 20 goals and has added 10 assists this season.
The other nominees included an Arbor View senior forward who recorded three goals and two assists Wednesday in a 6-2 playoff win over Western. That player leads the Aggies with 16 goals and 10 assists on the year.
Two football players rounded out the ballot: a junior wide receiver who had two receptions for 102 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-6 win over CIVICA, and a Bishop Gorman junior wide receiver who totaled 138 receiving yards and 21 rushing yards in a 50-7 victory over Mater East.
In other postseason news, Arbor View is the top seed in the 5A boys state soccer tournament beginning Friday, while Palo Verde holds the top spot in 4A girls. On the girls side, Elyse Bonneville of Arbor View was voted the Girls Athlete of the Week.
