The Las Vegas Raiders brought back wide receiver Cody White on Thursday, one day after cutting him to activate tight end Carter Runyon from injured reserve. White, who has three touchdown receptions for the team this season, returned to the practice field Thursday.
Because White is a vested veteran, he did not have to clear waivers upon his release Wednesday and became an immediate free agent. That status allowed him to choose to return to Las Vegas even if other teams had expressed interest.
To clear a roster spot for White, the Raiders waived Runyon from the active roster. Runyon is now subject to waivers, giving the other 31 NFL teams the opportunity to claim him and sign him to their active rosters.
If Runyon clears waivers on Friday, the Raiders could sign him to their practice squad. Had he been waived directly from injured reserve, the team would have faced a longer waiting period involving any injury settlement plus an additional three weeks before a potential return.
