Harry Reid International Airport hit 98 degrees Thursday afternoon, tying the record set in 1964, according to the National Weather Service. The valley has seen near-record high temperatures all week, with Wednesday reaching 97 degrees and Friday forecasted at 96 degrees. The all-time warmest October day occurred in 2024 at 104 degrees, with record-keeping beginning in 1937.
Remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel are expected to bring showers and storms to Southern Nevada beginning late Saturday night and into Sunday. There is a 60 percent chance of rain after 10 p.m. Saturday, increasing through the overnight, and a 90 percent chance of rain Sunday, especially in the afternoon. Showery conditions are expected to continue into Monday (50 percent chance) and Tuesday (30 percent chance).
Tuesday’s forecast high is 71 degrees, more than 10 degrees below normal. The last time Las Vegas saw a high in the low 70s was April 27, when it was 72 degrees. Cooler-than-normal temperatures, with lows in the 50s, should remain through next week. As of Thursday night, Rachel was downgraded to a tropical storm and was moving northeast toward the Baja California Peninsula, expected to make landfall south of Ensenada, Mexico, late Saturday night.
