The Vegas Golden Knights will be without leading goal scorer Victor Olofsson due to an upper-body injury. Coach Ryan Craig said Olofsson is week to week after being drilled into the boards by Kraken forward Ben Meyers in the third period of Tuesday’s game against Seattle. Olofsson had two goals in that game and leads the team with four goals this season.
Craig said, “He is a loss for us. He had a great start to the year, not just his shot but his overall game.” Olofsson had just been moved to the top power play unit before the injury. Rookie forward Trevor Connelly has taken his spot on the power play.
Raphael Lavoie will make his season debut Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, skating in Olofsson’s place on the third line with Tomas Hertl and Connelly. Lavoie, 26, played one preseason game before leaving with an undisclosed injury and led the Henderson Silver Knights with 30 goals last season. This will be his 18th NHL game.
Jack Eichel is off to a strong start with a league-leading 10 points entering Wednesday. Mark Stone’s fight with Seattle’s Brandon Montour followed the injury to Olofsson and set the tone for a chippy third period in Tuesday’s game, which the Golden Knights won.
