Las Vegas man faces murder charge in infant’s death

Las Vegas Justice Court records show Mileke Loven Williams, 29, has been charged with murder and a felony count of child abuse causing substantial bodily harm in the 2025 death of a 3-month-old boy identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Kai Phan.

According to a Metropolitan Police Department arrest report, Williams was caring for Phan on the afternoon of Sept. 25, 2025, while the boy's mother was at work. Williams called 911 requesting paramedics for an infant in cardiac arrest. Responding paramedics noticed bruising on the top of the child's forehead and the right side of his head.

Phan was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where officers were told he had suffered a non-survivable intracranial injury. He remained hospitalized until his death on Oct. 2, 2025. An autopsy determined the cause of death was blunt force injuries of the head with blunt force injuries of the torso as a major contributing factor, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. The autopsy also revealed skull and rib fractures, a massive brain bleed and swelling, and bruising on the forehead.

Police said the investigation showed Williams was the only caretaker when the injuries were likely sustained. Williams initially told police the child would not stop crying, spit up formula, and had eyes that were "gazing and rolling." He said he placed the child in a swing and called 911 minutes later when he noticed labored breathing. Police alleged Williams later stopped cooperating with the investigation.

Williams has not yet been appointed an attorney. Nevada Department of Corrections records and the arrest report indicate he previously served time in prison for a 2023 battery causing substantial bodily harm conviction.
