Lennar Corp. held a ceremonial groundbreaking for a roughly 70-acre community spanning the former Grant Sawyer state office building site and the soon-to-be-demolished Cashman Center complex across the street. The project, called The Foundry, is located along both sides of Washington Avenue just east of Las Vegas Boulevard.

Plans call for more than 1,000 homes at The Foundry, with vertical construction expected to start in October 2027. The gated community will include pools, picnic areas, walking paths, fitness course, play field, and children’s play area, along with amphitheater-style seating for outdoor events.

As Lennar described it, the builder is targeting first-time buyers, young families and others “seeking to own a home in the heart of the city.”
